My Mom & Dad | Old Person Photographer
These are my parents. I don’t think I have ever posted about them on this blog before. So, here you go, you can meet my family. I usually like them a lot.
My parents have been married for over thirty years now. And they still like each other, really. It wasn’t all smooth sailing. I don’t think life is ever just smooth sailing. They had some really hard times. There have been some people rooting for them to make it through, and there have been other people rooting for them and their marriage to fail.
But, I am proud to say that these two parents of mine, chose to heal, address faults, and fight for each other rather than throw in the towel. Thank goodness for these people who believe in the overwhelming power of the atonement, who believe in each other, and really showed me that no matter how messy things they are not people to give up. Maybe they will never give up on me.
I don’t think that fairy-tale or my-favorite-novel love really exists, at least not in the way that sometimes we want it to. Wedding days don’t end in, “happily ever after” they end in a commitment to share your life together, even when shit gets real. I think that as you build your life together the love that you have for each other can become something much more. It can become something that is apart of your soul. It can become a concern for someone outside of yourself, even when you want to punch them in the face. Maybe it can become something even bigger than we have the capacity to understand.
Mistakes will be made. Bad choices will be made. But maybe, just maybe, at the end of it all it can become something even greater than we ever dreamed.
